Open Recipe @ Carrefour, Puchong Utama

It has been a dream for me to actually have my own bakery shop to so all of you can actually drop by my Bistro Bakery too, so all of you can enjoy my recipes off the racks and order for your party. Being extremely amazed that my college friend has opened "Open Recipe" Bakery shop early this year, I personally decided that i should pop by to check it out their signature Mille Crêpes cake. Do not worry as I will not be bias just to attract you all there. True sharing are promoted in this Look-See-Eat blog so you all can have the best out of the best and make no mistakes. ^_^

What are Crêpes? It originate from France. It's actually very thin pancake tossed in a pan, click here to read more about Crêpe. Mille Crêpes here you can imagine layers after layers of Crêpes sandwich with whipped cream and in different selected flavors that can be found here in Open Recipe.

Headed there for tea-time with my little brother to be able to sample 3 of their signature Mille Crêpes cakes.

The friendly & simple decorated cafe style has limited sofas for people who would like to sit and chill out while enjoying their free wifi and also enjoy their current offer of add RM0.10 for either Coffee or Tea (Hot or Cold) with any purchase of a slice of Mille Crêpes! Great place for husbands or boyfriends who would like to Chill Out while waiting for your ladies to do their groceries shopping at Carrefour.

My little bro and my favorite also Open Recipe HOT SELLING Item is "Mille Crepes Milky Caramel". The sweet sweet nice Caramel blends will with the Milky Whipping Cream. Surprisingly, once you take your first mouthful you'll fall in love with it as it is not sweet at all and you just keep going on. Not only us but a few customers that pop by also ordered. MYR7.50.

Second in line is the Mille Crêpes Oreo Cappuccino. It's freshing and decently flavored with Oreo crunch along with the fresh oreo mixed whipping cream. Worth trying out too. However, the name mentioned Cappuccino but there was no Cappuccino taste in any bite. Good for Oreo lover, go get it! MYR8.50

Since I am a Chocoholic, listening to this name I immediately decided to order it, "Mille Crepes Belgium Chocolate Velvet". Feeling disappointed with it actually as it was not chocolaty enough for neither me nor my little brother. We describe it as eggy cream chocolate Mille Crepes. The taste does not live up to the Belgium Chocolate. We look forward for the improved version :). MYR8.50

We were actually given their NEW RECIPE BUN fresh from oven, no names given both are delicious can be compared to Berry's Bakery who has something similar but with different topping.

Just received name from Open Recipe Boss:
Left is Mayo Sausage Bun
Right is Island Crab Bun

There are other assorted buns on the rack where some looks pretty interesting.

Not only cakes there are other Set offers:
Tea Talk Set at RM5.90 available at 3pm-10pm
Set Pizza available all day at MYR9.90
Sandwich Set at RM8.90 available all day too.
Not forgetting cookies D'Amour, 100g at MYR4.50 are also sold there.
Like all bakeries, there are actually full whole cake sold too. Pre-order are also available with just a call to ensure the freshness of your Mille Crêpes.

Yet another Kopitiam chain - Hainan Tea Kopitiam, Bandar Puteri Puchong

I've wondered for a while now whether the kopitiam movement is just a fad, or whether it's here to stay. I mean, I've been drinking teh 'c' and eating roti bakar with kaya and butter for ages, but it's only been (relatively) recently that the whole 'upscaling' thing came on the scene with shops like Old Town, Pappa Rich, Hailam Kopitiam, and others.

One of the newer franchises that I've come across is called Hainan Tea Kopitiam. Apparently there are already a few branches in the KL area - the darling and I are sampling the one in Bandar Puteri Puchong.

First impressions are actually quite favorable, thanks to the menu that offers quite a few variety of dishes that other kopitiams don't. Normally you just have to have either coffee, tea, or cham, but that day no mood lah. The darling has a Flower Tea (MYR5.90) - it's nice and refreshing, tastes sort of like a tasty, flowery Chinese Tea. I order Carrot Milk (MYR4.90) which was *THE* worst Carrot Juice I've ever tasted. Tastes like just the juice of a single local (i.e. not sweet) carrot, topped up with tons of milk and water. I want to give it more than two thumbs down but I only have two hands :(

I mentioned earlier that this kopitiam franchise has some interesting variety on the menu - here's one of them: Hainan Cheong Fun Special (MYR5.50). It looks a bit disgusting, but it was decently good. Had a mixture of sweet sauce and some other brownish/yellow'ish sauce - couldn't quite make out what it was, but it had a hint of peanut butter.

I try another interesting-looking dish: the Hainan Twister with Tuna ($3.50), can also order with brown bread instead of white. Unfortunately its' taste isn't as unique as its' looks. Tastes exactly what it looks like - tuna on toasted bread.

The Hainan Brown Toast 3 Layer (MYR3.80) is another dish that is decidedly mediocre. The layers in this case are butter and peanut butter - nice combination but just the same as any other kopitiam.

Overall, I didn't find anything special that would justify purposely choosing Hainan Tea over any of the other kopitiams for a spot of yumcha and toast. If anything I'd be inclined to avoid it, on the strength (or rather, weakness) of that terrible, terrible carrot juice. I mean come on guys - 5 bucks buys an entire kilo of carrots at the market, can't you put more than one miserable carrot into your juice?

Hainan Tea is in Bandar Puteri Puchong - the 'side' of town that has the Giant supermarket.

Restoran Yee Heong - Bak Kut Teh in Puchong

Blog hit 3,000 pageviews over the last few days! And yes, I know it's a measly number in the grand scheme of things, but hey, at least now I know some of you actually read these random food ramblings of mine (or at least ... click on the links in facebook :P)

Took a family makan makan trip to Restoran Yee Heong over at Puchong for some Bak Kut Teh. It's nice, bright, clean and quite cooling!

If you haven't noticed, these pictures are again taken by the iPhone 4. Better slightly crappy pictures than none, right? The restaurant has a few different dishes other than BKT, of which we first sample the wu tau kau yuk (erm ... fatty pork sandwiched with yam). It's pretty good. The kau yuk is just the right amount of fat, and the dish has ben cooked well enough that the yam is neither too hard nor too mushy.

Another dish we sample is their fried tofu. This one isn't really tofu, tastes more like eggs, something like Japanese tofu. It's OK but nothing special.

Chee tou tong (peppered pig stomach soup) is next - also quite good, the stomach was washed well and doesn't have an overpowering 'porky' taste.

Sadly, we went a bit late and actually there was no more BKT (I know, right? Haha). So we sampled the sang kuat yuk, which is pork spare ribs in a 'clear' broth. The meat was well cooked and tender, but the broth was way too plain for our liking. We also got a few bowls of just the BKT broth which was more flavorful.

Overall it's a decent place to have dinner for a BKT fix, but in our opinion none of the dishes were really outstanding. Don't remember price, other than it was 'reasonable.'

Stadt German Cuisine and Bistro - Father's Day Celebration!

Wow, been a week since my last update, didn't know time passed so quickly. Anyway just a short and sweet post. We went to Stadt German Cuisine and Bistro in Bandar Puteri Puchong to celebrate father's day.

(Side note: I find it a bit ridiculous and disgusting the way pretty much all restaurants set up these 'XXX' day special menus, and serve you the same food but charge you extra. But what to do, extra or no extra I go and eat and pay anyway, haha)

Forgot to take pictures of the interior, but it's nice and cosy, if a bit noisy. Also, we're limited to only a couple of (grossly overpriced) choices on the Father's Day special menu. Mum has the mushroom soup, which is actually pretty nice and non-creamed (I don't like cream-based mushroom soups).

On to the mains: we share two roast pork knuckles. The skin is nice and crispy, and the accompanying gravy complements the dish well. Pity the stingy sides though, check out the mashed potato, one mouthful already can finish.

We also go for a selection of sausages. Don't know the names of the individual sausages, but they were all delicious. Sausages with gravy and mustard, yum yum! I especially liked the one with melted cheese inside - think it was the long pinkish one. Naturally, these are pork sausages (as are all good sausages, methinks).

Overall, while the quality of the food was pretty nice and the ambience quite inviting, the prices were just insane. I kind of misplaced the receipt (again, lol), but recall that the knuckles were about $70-$80, and the 5 sausages were about $60-$70. Will probably have to come back here again on a non-event day to get a better idea of the price/food quality ratio.

Stadt is located in Bandar Puteri Puchong, the Giant side, in the 'middle row' of those shophouses. Map from their website.
