Happy Mother's Day 2011 - Celebration at East Lake Restaurant!

OK OK, so East Lake Restaurant isn't a real Restaurant. It's my parents' house. Rather than paying close to a thousand ringgit on a fancy overpriced Mother's Day dinner in some fancy restaurant, the family decided to all chip in and cook up a dinner instead! We'll be sharing the full recipes for the dishes you'll see here, but for now, here's wishing all mums all over the world an extremely happy mother's day!

"A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie - Tenneva Jordan"

So anyways, that's normally my dad's work table, but now doing double duty as a (kinda) fancy restaurant table! Meanwhile, behind the scenes, here's the executive chef (me), the sous chef (the darling) and the maître d' Su San (my 3rd sister), cooking up the meal.

First up are appetizers, of course, starting with Tuna Tomato Bites, garnished with chives ...

... followed by a second appetizer of Honey Ham Baby Asparagus Roll-Ups.

Moving on to the mains: We served up two courses (mostly because my dad doesn't really fancy beef). First up was the Saikyo Miso encrusted Salmon Fillets, on a bed of bacon mashed potatoes and asparagus. Was initially planning to go for Cod, but we could only find frozen cod, so we went with the salmon instead.

Second main course will be familiar to you if you're a regular to our blog - our specialty Pan-Grilled Grass Fed Rib Eye Steak, served medium rare.

We ended the meal with a selection of two desserts: A crème brûlée whipped up by Pastry Chef Su Ann (my 1st younger sister), which I totally forgot to take a photo of, and home made Macarons. The nicely shaped ones were made by the darling. Cos she has steadier hands than I do :)

So a fancy 5-course mother's day dinner at a fancy 'restaurant,' and it only cost about RM220 (to feed seven hungry mouths). And it gives our mum bragging rights to her friends, ha ha!

Detailed recipes (will be updated here as we post):
- Pan-Grilled Grass Fed Rib Eye Steak
